Jean R. Myers, age 92, of Alma, formerly of Ionia, died Monday, June 15, 2015, at Masonic Pathways in Alma. Jean was born February 19, 1923, in Ionia, the son of Lawrence and Mildred Ruth (Wright) Myers. He served as a pastor with the Salvation Army for four years, before taking a job in a factory to work his way through Greenville College, for his Bachelor’s Degree to teach. He then would teach through the school year, and then take his family down to Mexico, where, over the course of several summers he earned his Master’s Degree in Spanish. He then taught spanish in several schools in Michigan and also in LaVilla, Texas. His faith was always a big part of his life. Jean also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, archery, shooting pistols, horses, and rode his motorcycle until he was 76. Jean is survived by his wife, Leota, of Cadillac; his children, Karla (Duane) Woodruff of Birch Run, Marilyn (Robert) Eichorn of Ithaca, Mark (Diane) Myers of Cadillac, and Onalee Myers of Birch Run; 11 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and his brother, Jerry (Donna) Myers, of Ionia. He was preceded in death by his son, Andy Myers. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Rev. Steve Swem officiating. Interment will follow in Emerson Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Rock Lake Campground.
