Jason Michael Goerge, age 48, of Fowler, MI, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Sparrow Health Systems, Lansing, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI, at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 22, 2022, with Rev. Fr. Eric Weber presiding. Burial will take place at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Goerge Chapel, Fowler, MI. A Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Jason was born in Carson City, Michigan on October 20, 1973, the son of George William and Beverly Ann (Bengel) Goerge. Jason graduated from Fowler High School with the class of 1992. He married LuAnn Schmitt on October 26, 1996, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI.
Jason worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections for 25 years. Jason's true passion besides spending time with his family was coaching. He coached little league for many years and began coaching high school basketball in 2007. He was currently the head coach for the Portland Raiders' boys’ basketball team. When not coaching, he was an avid Michigan State Spartan fan. Jason never left your house without a big hug, kiss, and an "I love you!" He was a lifetime member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and involved in the Knights of Columbus and the Fowler Athletic Boosters.
He is survived by his wife LuAnn Goerge; children: Jamison Goerge and Morgan Goerge (Alex Pung); parents George and Bev Goerge; siblings: Brent Goerge, Nathan (Emily) Goerge, and Lindsey (John) Pline; father and mother-in-law Don and Joan Schmitt; in-laws: Steve (Jane) Schmitt, Donna (Al) Glowacki, Mike (Tracy) Schmitt, Jan (Dave) Feldpausch, and Bruce (Michelle) Schmitt. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Bernard and Jean Bengel and Roy and Josepha Goerge, and several aunts and uncles.
