Janice Beverly Moomey

d. July 14, 2019

September 27, 1939- July 14, 2019

Janice “Jan” Moomey, 79, of Saint Louis, Michigan passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Sunday, July 14, 2019.

Jan was born September 27, 1939 in Curtis, Michigan, the daughter of Frank and Wyona (Church) Handy. She married Larry Moomey on February 28 of 1958 and together they had 5 children. Throughout her years she lived in the Alma and Saint Louis area where she raised her children, cared for her mother, and loved her grandchildren. She lived for several years in Kenai, Alaska near her children & grandchildren there as well.

She enjoyed spending her day going for a drive or “gallivanting” as she would say which usually consisted of cruising back roads and a stop to visit with friends & family or to share a bite to eat.

Her home was always a welcome place for family and friends. She was affectionately known to many as “Ma,” “Granny,” or “Aunt Jan”—she treated everyone like family.

Her life was dedicated to caring for her children and grandchildren. They were truly her pride and joy.

She will be remembered for her kind heart and her endlessly gentle soul. She always had time for anyone willing to spend it and her love was unconditional. She will be deeply missed.

Jan is survived by her brother, Jim (Tyrell) Handy of Ithaca, MI, her four children, Brian (Suzanne) Moomey of Barryton, MI, Debra Rodgers (Moomey) of Vestaburg, MI,  Mike (Dawn) Moomey of Vestaburg, MI, and Kevin (Colleen) Moomey of Nikiski, Alaska, 8 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Richard “Dick” Handy, her sister Loyann “Pudge” (Handy) Morford, her stillborn son Baby Boy Moomey, and her great-grandson Jason.

Memorial services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Saint Louis (120 Michigan Ave.)  on Saturday, July 27, 2019 from 11am-1pm with Pastor Phil Maxwell officiating. There will be a luncheon immediately to follow at the same location.  Online condolences may be left for the family at bardenfuneralhome.com.
