Jack L. Langan, age 93, of Chippewa Lake, formerly of Ithaca, MI passed away Monday, March 9, 2026, at Evergreen Senior Living, Kingsford, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, March 16, 2026, with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating. Burial will take place at Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Jack was born in Muskegon, MI on April 21, 1932, the son of John and Bessie (VanVorst) Langan. Jack attended Muskegon Heights High School and during his senior year joined the United States Marine Corps. During that time his unit was activated and he served in Korea for one year. Upon his return he graduated and married his high school sweetheart Janice Leniece Jirschele, on August 23, 1952, in Muskegon, MI. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage, prior to her passing on August 13, 2016.
Jack retired after 25 years as a Michigan State Police Trooper. After he retired he went on to become the Gratiot County Sheriff for 10 years. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their sporting events and especially enjoyed watching wrestling. Jack loved time on his boat at the lake with family.
He is survived by his children: Michael (Terry) Langan, Patricia Jones, Deborah Richards, Mark Langan and Robin (Christopher) Carter. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law Ronald Jones, his brother Robert Langan and sister Pearl Hyde.
