Irene Medina

     Irene Medina, age 96, of Ovid, MI, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Hospice House of Shiawassee County, Owosso, MI.  Irene resided most of her life in Ovid. 

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church 510 N. Mabbit Road, Ovid, MI 48866 at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, with Rev. Fr. Anthony Brooks presiding. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI at a later date. Visitation will be held on Saturday one hour prior to the Mass at the Church. 

    Irene was born in Raymondville, Texas on March 31, 1928, the daughter of Bonifacio and Sinforosa (Cabrera) Salinaz.  Irene married Daniel Medina on June 12, 1948, and he passed away on November 7, 2003. 

    She worked in housekeeping at Clinton Memorial Hospital for 40 years.  Irene liked to play bingo and go to the casino.  She always enjoyed vacationing, especially to California and going camping.  Many will remember her as a wonderful cook.  Irene was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid. 

    She is survived by her son Pete and Diane Salinaz of Lansing, MI; son Daniel Junior and Frances Medina of Owosso, MI; daughter Caroline and Roberto Hernandez of Ovid, MI; son Victor and Jamie Medina of Ovid, MI; daughter Lucy Medina of Ovid, MI; son Raymond and Josy Medina of Ovid, MI; son-in-law Frank Chontos of Riverview, MI; 22 grandchildren: Julie, Trisha, Christopher, Frankie Jr., Heather, Monica, Danny IV, Sean, Bobby, Ericka, Vicente, Angelita, Marcia, Joshua, Brian, Ashlee, Florentino, Elizabeth, Estrella, Raymond Jr., Michelle, and Louie; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Eva, Ester, Adam, Maggie and Joann.  Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Daniel Medina, her son Jesse Medina, daughter Carmen Chontos, son-in-law Donald Hunt, granddaughter Gina Poirier, and sisters: Aurora, Leonore, and Mary, also her brother Francisco.
