Hugh J. Sova

Hugh J. Sova, 86 of Ithaca passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

He was born March 3, 1928 in Alma to Frank and Alice (Brooks) Sova. On November 22, 1950 he married Donelda M. Martyn. A graduate of Alma High School, Hugh enlisted in the Navy and served actively from 1945 to 1947.  He worked until his retirement from AmeriGas (Cal Gas). Hugh was an avid golfer and was proud to have achieved a hole in one at age 73. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, wintering in Arizona, and his morning cup of coffee at McDonalds.

He is survived by his son Richard (Theresa) Sova of Traverse City, grandchildren Jeremy Sova of Lakeview, and Kaitlynn Sova of Chicago, his brother Dean Sova of Ithaca and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donelda Sova, brother Richard Sova, daughter-in-law, Julie Sova, and two granddaughters, Kara Lynn Sova and Leighanne Sova.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11am Saturday, January 17, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Ithaca. Visitation will be 2-4pm and 6-8pm Friday, January 16, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
