Helen Irene (Stahl) Johnson

     Helen Irene Johnson, age 96, of St. Louis, MI, passed away peacefully Monday, August 1, 2022, at Brookdale Memory Care, Haslett, MI.

     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI, on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 12:00 P.M., with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held beginning at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.

     Helen was born in Coe, MI on April 28, 1926, the youngest of the ten children of Eldon and Sarah Elizabeth (Thomas) Stahl.  When Helen was 15, she began working at The Conery where she met Kenneth Robert Johnson. She caught his eye with that extra-large dip of ice cream she always gave him. On September 25, 1943, they were married in St. Louis. They were blessed with nearly 50 years of marriage before he passed away on May 31, 1993.

     Helen enjoyed gardening and caring for her yard. She looked for every opportunity to play a good game of cards with family or friends. She lived most of her life on the Johnson family farm, but spent over 40 winters in Zephyrhills, FL where she were very involved in the social life of the park community. Most of all, Helen loved her family including her many nieces and nephews.

     Helen is survived by two sons: Kenneth Robert Johnson, Jr. of The Villages, FL; Harry (Carol) Johnson of Okemos, MI; and grandson Brian Johnson. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, nine siblings: Leo Stahl, Harold Stahl, Ethel Richardson, Lelah Ayris, Dale Stahl, Beatrice Stahl, Ildah Hale, Norman Stahl, and Arlo Stahl.
