Harold Mathias Gross, age 81, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI, at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams presiding. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel in St. Johns with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
Harold was born in Mt. Pleasant, MI, on January 14, 1945, the son of Ernest Anthony and Anna (Fox) Gross. He graduated from Beal City High School, with the class of 1964. Right after graduation, he proudly served two years in the United States Navy as a Seaman. Harold then went on to dedicate over 44 years to General Motors until his retirement. He married Karol Ann Zeneberg on June 13, 1970, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, MI. They were blessed with over 55 years of marriage and she survives him.
Harold was an avid collector of many things, including stamps, John Deere tractors, and tools. Harold loved maintaining his vegetable garden, and giving the fruits of his labor to his family and friends. He also loved traveling with his family to various destinations in the Upper Peninsula and United States. When he wasn't traveling or gardening, you could find Harold rooting for his favorite MSU teams, or the Detroit Lions, and Detroit Tigers.
He is survived by his wife Karol; his children: Kevin (Penny) Gross, Timothy Gross, Amy Gross, and Melissa Gross; his grandchildren: Jonathan (Crystal) Schultz, Laura Higelmire, and Autumn Gross; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Zoey, Landon, Harmony, Weston, Arabella, Zayn, Connor, Kolton; his sister, Esther (Raymond) Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, his grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
