Glen Thrush

Glen E. Thrush, age 90, of Alma, MI, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI, on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Dan Siedlecki officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis, MI.

Glen was the youngest of seven boys born to Willis and Hannah (Seymour) Thrush of Emerson Township/rural Alma, MI.  The family operated the Thrush cider mill on VanBuren Road for decades.  Glen and his wife Frances Ramona lived in the greater Gratiot area throughout their entire 57 year marriage. They actively participated in the community, schools, churches, sports, musical and social events. They both loved gardening, spending time outdoors and especially spending time with family.

For the past 13 years, Glen has enjoyed the abiding companionship of his beautiful Christian friend, Ms. Elaine Rockafellow, along with her caring extended family and their little dog Tori.

Glen's professional years were spent as a Power Engineer and facility manager at the Michigan Chemical Corporation and at Central Michigan Community Hospital.  He also prided himself as an avid do-it-your-selfer and Mr. Fix it. Whatever it took to get the job done, he rose to the occasion.

Glen was an avid sportsman and hunter from childhood until the very end. Over many decades he enjoyed the camaraderie of many who shared his passion for the greater Michigan woodlands, fields and streams. Glen maintained a hunting kennel for many years and also participated in the Kennel Club for competitions and training events. In more recent years he enjoyed coyote hunting with local coyote hunters when he was able. Glen's passion for working animals, pet animals, and wildlife persisted until his passing.

Glen is survived by his three children: Glenda (Jeff) Prout of Shepherd, Ronald (Karen) Thrush of King, North Carolina and Carol Thrush of Suttons Bay; six grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.  Glen was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers Howard, Willard, Clifford, Wilford, Clare and Russell as well as his wife of 57 years, Frances Ramona (Pratt/Weatherwax), grandson Robert Sheldon Prout, and great-grandaughter Abigail Grace Thrush.
