      Gale Lee Baese, age 91, of Elsie, MI, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Pathway Home of Elsie, Elsie, Michigan. 

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, MI, at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, with Rev. Fr. Joseph Griffin presiding. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery Elsie, Michigan, at a later date. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, Michigan and Rosary will be prayed 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

     Gale was born in Elsie, Michigan on April 6, 1932, the son of Onas Penn and Thelma Irene (Doten) Baese. He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1950. On November 20, 1954, he married Marcella Ann Palembas in Bannister at St. Cyril's Catholic Church. He served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until December of 1955.

     Gale was a member of the American Legion Post #502 and Knights of Columbus.  He worked at Johnson Controls in the Battery Division as a Shipping Foreman Supervisor for forty-four years before his retirement.  He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, yard work, and was very involved with the Veterans. He was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, Michigan.

     He is survived by his wife, Marcella Baese of Elsie, MI; his children: Dolores and Roger Sosebee, Juleann and David Bruce Beane, Jeffrey and Doreen (Besonen) Baese, and Cheryl and Thomas (Perkins) Quillico; his siblings: Mary Lou Hanold, Diane, and Richard Bates, and Richard and Linda Collins Baese; three sisters-in-law: Shirley and Carol Baese, and Belinda Marton; one brother-in-law Terry and Carol Palembas, and sisters-in-law: Mary Marton and Frances Marton. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Versil Baese, Robert (Shirley) Baese, Eldon (Jean) Baese, Lewis (Dorothy) Baese, Raymond Baese, Merle Baese, Owen Baese, and Bryce Kevin Baese; sister Onalee (Jerry) Austin; two brothers-in-law: Ed Hanold and Paul Marton; and his mother-in-law, Stephanie Marton.
