Franklin Gross Sr

Franklin Henry Gross Sr. age 92 of Beaverton, Michigan formerly of the Elsie area passed away Saturday, December 13, 2003 at Mid-Michigan Regional Center in Midland, Michigan. He was a farmer and also worked for H.J. Heinz Co., then later worked 18 years for the Saginaw County Road Commission retiring in 1976.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2003 at 12:00 noon. Pastor Jeffrey Gross will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Franklin was born on June 6, 1911 in Chapin Township, Michigan, the son of Fred & Anna (Meehling) Gross. On January 25, 1936 he married Beulah Grace McKay in Oakley, Michigan. She died on February 18, 2003. He resided in the Elsie area until moving north to Wixom Lake in Beaverton in 1976. At the lake he became caretaker for many part time residents. He loved his dog, Casey, and was called Grandpa by many that visited him at the lake.
He is survived by 1 son, Frank Jr. & Jean Gross of Beaverton, MI, 1 stepdaughter, Mary & Jim Newvine of Chesaning, MI, 2 very devoted friends, Walt & JoAnn Kroll of Beaverton, MI, 2 daughter in laws, Janet Ostrander of Elsie, MI, and Beverly Teddy of Brant, MI, 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 son, Gerald Gross, a grandson, Doug Gross, 5 great-grandchildren, and 2 brothers, George & Robert. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Chapin United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
