Edward Bruce "Ed" Waldron, age 91, of Sumner, MI passed away Friday June 12, 2026, in the home that he and his family built from the ground up.
Per Ed's wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at Sumner Cemetery, Sumner, MI.
Ed was born in Breckenridge, Michigan on October 6, 1934, the oldest son of Noel and Beatrice Irene (Reprogle) Waldron. Ed was a very hardworking, determined man who loved to work with his hands and his equipment. All who had the pleasure to observe him operate heavy equipment, especially a hydraulic excavator, would attest to his skill and expertise. Until just shortly before his death he still put on his work clothes every day and went to his shop.
Ed enjoyed going to flea markets and had a love of antiques and collectibles, especially classic cars. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida and over the years owned several houses there. Ed's pride in his work is on display in many homes in the central Michigan area where he built custom fireplaces, did intricate masonry work and dug beautiful ponds. Over the years Ed also dug hundreds of miles of drain ditch in Clinton, Gratiot, Midland, Montcalm and Saginaw counties. In addition, he completed many road/drainage projects for Gratiot County Road Commission. To honor his beloved wife Joyce, who passed suddenly in 2005, Ed constructed a large natural stone gateway at the entrance of their long driveway. When creating the metal gates, the plasma cut large hummingbirds (Joyce's favorite) to place in the center of the gates as the focal point.
Ed is survived by his daughter Jeanine Reimer, daughter Melodee Plath, daughter Alicia Waldron, son Bruce (Tammy) Waldron, son Wendell (Mollie) Waldron, and daughter Kristal (Mark) Clark; daughter-in-law Aileen Waldron; and step-children: Dana Balcom, Marla (Tom) Redman, and Brian (Jen) Balcom. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 3 step- grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Ed is also survived by one sister, Karen Sanders, many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends who loved and respected him. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 54 years Joyce, his second wife of 17 years Beatrice, his youngest son Aaron, his son-in law Allen Reimer, his granddaughter Olivia Waldron, and his siblings: Ann Pyscher, Onalee Welling, and David Waldron.
