Douglas Kenneth “Doug” Hartsuff, age 80, went home to be with his Lord, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at University of Michigan-Sparrow Campus, Lansing, MI.
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Houghton Chapel, Ovid, Michigan, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor David Stanton officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
It could easily be said that, Doug Hartsuff had strengths and interests that spanned many different and sometimes eclectic directions. From his early days in the Navy to his career of many tasks for GTE, then a soft but active, quiet lifestyle after retirement, you would never see him shy away from a good zinger, or picking on a guitar, with some pretty good string skills. Always someone to conquer a puzzle of many different types, crosswords, Sudoku, or any other brain teaser, whether it was in print or on television, such as Jeopardy, he could certainly earn the nickname, “the puzzlelator.” In fact, when “GOOGLE” doesn’t know an answer, it has to “DOUG” it.
To add to his many busy tasks and interests, he would find out how many coats of wax it takes to strip a pickup truck of paint, ride his motorcycle, or sail his boat. He never missed an opportunity to partake in the grandchildren’s performances or sporting events, always there to encourage them. Sometimes it just meant a nice trip to the coffee shop, play guitar with friends, and knock back a cup of coffee on a nice morning. And while doing all of that, he would ever keep the love of family and his dearest, Clarice close to heart.
Rest well, Douglas, father, husband, and friend.
He is survived by his wife Clarice Hartsuff of Ovid, MI; his children: Brian (Katie) Hartsuff of Corunna, MI; Crista (Bruce) Valentine of Bannister, MI; and Andrea (Mike) Graham of Newnan, GA; three grandchildren: Ezra Valentine, Braden Hartsuff, and Carter Hartsuff; his sister Barb Hale; his brother-in-law Carl Galecka; sister-in-law Chris Hartsuff; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jeff Hartsuff, and his sister Janet Galecka.
