Dorothy Ellen Shaver, age 88, of Alma, passed away on December 29, 2012 at Pine River Healthcare Center in St. Louis.
Dot was born on August 4, 1924 in Elwell to Mabel and Benjamin Strack. She was the last of five children. Dot graduated from Alma High School in 1943.
On October 16, 1943 in Mt. Pleasant, she married Rollan “Rollie” Shaver. Rollie and Dot were married for 53 years, and together they raised two children in Alma.
While her husband was overseas during World War II, she was employed at Total Refineries in the lab. For over 60 years, she attended and was a member of the Beebe United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Women’s Society.
Dorothy taught Bishop Sewing for several years for St. Louis Adult Education. Her special “joy” was the 4-H Fair for Youth which she took an active roll in for 24 years.
Surviving Dot are her children Scott (Angie) Shaver of Alma and Kaye (Mike) Mahoney of Arizona; her granddaughters Alexis Shaver of Alma, Kate (Rob) Logsdon of Montana, and grandson Jeremy (Adriana) Aumaugher of Aberdeen, Scotland; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollan Shaver, in 1996 and three sisters and one brother.
Visitation will take place at Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca on January 4, 2013, from 1-3 pm, with the funeral service following at 3 pm. Pastor Cindi Greene will be officiating. Burial will be in the Emerson Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Maple View Foster Care Home or Beebe United Methodist Church, 2875 N. Baldwin Rd., Ithaca, MI, 48847.
