Dorothy Carol (Jewell) Long

      Dorothy Carol "Dort" Long, age 78, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

       Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, with Mr. Brad Vibber officiating. Burial will take place at Jasper Township Cemetery, Midland County, MI. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at the funeral home.

      Dorothy was born in Marion, Michigan on July 23, 1945, the daughter of Herman and Leatha Faye (Swartz) Jewell. She graduated from St. Louis High School.  On October 27, 1979, Dort married Lloyd Frederick Long at their home in St. Louis, MI.  They were blessed with forty-years of marriage prior to his passing on May 3, 2020. She owned the St. Louis Frosty Cone for 20 years. 

      Dort was devoted to her family. She was the center of all family holiday gatherings. She loved to have her family around. Dort faithfully supported Lloyd's dirt racing at Crystal and was an avid NASCAR fan. After Lloyd's death, she enjoyed trips to Florida with her sister Maxine. Dort was very attached to Billie’s dog, Babies. Dort attended St. Louis Church of Christ.

      She is survived by her daughter Billie Jo (Michael) SanMiguel of Ligonier, IN; four step-children: Leonard (Leisa) Long of Newark, MO; Arnold Long of Wheeler, MI; Donald (Denise) Long of St. Louis, MI; and Anita Long of Wheeler, MI; bonus daughter Linda Couch of St. Louis, MI; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, her sister Maxine Strayer, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd (2020), daughter Lorraine (Troy) Hoyt, infant granddaughter Katie Lynn SanMiguel, and five siblings: Herman Jewell, Earl Jewell, George Jewell, Sandra Kay Davis, and Max Jewell
