Doris Mae Cook, of DeWitt, MI, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the age of 86.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes-Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, with Pastor Tim Knaus and Pastor Tad Jameson officiating. Burial will take place at Wilsey Cemetery, DeWitt, MI. Visitation will be held 6-8 P.M. on Monday, June 23, 2025, and again from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Doris was born July 6, 1938, the daughter of Blake O. and Grace Margret (Kramer) Fisher. She was the adopted daughter of Thaddeus Smith. On August 31, 1957, Doris married David Lee Cook at the Methodist Church in Angola, Indiana. They have been blessed with sixty-seven years of marriage.
Doris is survived by her husband David; her sons: Lee (Judy) Cook, and Paul (Janet) Cook; her daughter Brenda Grace; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers: Lary (Leanne) Smith and Blake (Linda) Fisher; and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Blake and Grace, and her sister Mary Jane (Richard) Sober.
A natural educator, Doris dedicated over three decades to teaching Sunday school, children’s church, and leading women’s Bible studies. Her passion for education was evident in her involvement at Calvary Baptist Church in Lansing. She was also a member of the Gideon's Auxiliary
Doris had a deep heart for missions, and one missionary especially close to her heart was Ginny (Davis) Lee. In honor of Doris’s life and legacy, the family invites you to consider donating in her memory to support Ginny’s mission work in lieu of flowers.
