Diane Elaine Mussell, age 80, of Fowler, MI, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:30 A.M., with Rev. Fr. John Whitlock presiding. Burial will take place at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler, MI. Visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Goerge Chapel, Fowler, MI, on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. a Rosary being prayed Friday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Diane was born in Westphalia, Michigan on March 23, 1946, the daughter of Frank and Bernita (Miller) Thelen. She was a graduate of Pewamo Westphalia High School. Diane married Duane Edward Mussell, on October 19, 1985, in Fowler, MI. They were married for thirty-two years prior to his passing on September 24, 2018.
Diane loved gardening, cooking and baking. Spending time with her grandchildren brought her the greatest joy. Diane enjoyed spending her summers camping at Snows Lake with friends. She enjoyed playing dominoes with her sister and her friends at Snows Lake. Diane was an avid MSU fan. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
She is survived by her sons: Randy and Heather Theis of Fowler, MI; and Chad Theis and Stephanie Herbertz of Lyons, CO; grandchildren: Cole and Kylie Theis of Fowler, MI; Jayci Theis and Nik Trefil of Fowler, MI; Canyon Theis, and Juniper Theis both of Lyons, CO; great-granddaughter Maesie Theis; sister Marilyn Halfmann of Fowler, MI; brother Roy Thelen of Stanton, MI; several nieces and nephews. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers: Reynold, Francis, Larry, and Alan Thelen, sisters: Elaine Thelen, Joanne VanHeck, and Janice Chapko, and also several brothers and sisters-in-law.
