Dennis Dewane Cox

      Dennis Dewane Cox, age 70, of Ovid, MI, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025, after a short battle with an unexpected illness.
      Visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes-Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. -1:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, MI, following the visitation.
      Dennis was born in Owosso, MI, on February 9, 1955, the son of Leo Dewane and Mary Lou (Jorae) Cox. He graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School, with the of Class of 1973.
      Dennis was a huge Michigan State University Spartans and Detroit Tigers fan. He loved to camp, mainly at Platte River Campground. Dennis would never miss an event if his grandchildren were a part of it. Above all, was a huge family man. He was a corrections officer for the Michigan Department of Corrections in Jackson for 27 years. Prior to that, Dennis worked at Toledo Commutator in Owosso for 24 years.
      He is survived by his children: Benjamin (Jaime) Cox, Alanna (Jon) Cejmer, and Nicole Cox. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Darien (Lexi Royer) Cox, Genavieve Cox, Leila Nagel, and Orian Gilbert; and great-grandchildren: Jaycei and Amora; one nephew Matthew (Jessica) Cox; two sisters and one brother; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Lynn Cox, and sister-in-law Jane Cox.
