David James (Jim) Mcdaid

d. December 31, 2017

David James (Jim) McDaid, 66, of Sumner, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Sparrow Carson Hospital with his family by his side.
Jim was born June 11, 1951 in Washington Township, the son of Murl and Mary Helen (Thayer) McDaid.  In 1970 he graduated from Ithaca High school.  During that same year Jim enlisted in the National Guard and completed Basic Training in Louisiana.  On August 20, 1971 Jim married his high school sweetheart Marcia Louise Macha and together they raised their family of four children.
Upon high school graduation he worked at Whitman Industrial Homes, Alma Products and went on to retire from General Motors of Lansing after 30 years of service.  Throughout his life Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and capturing special moments and memories with his camera at family gatherings and during his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.  He loved to watch his children and grandchildren participate in sports and other school events.  They were his pride and joy.  After retirement he looked forward to getting out on the golf course with his friends and old high school buddies.  Unfortunately, his golf swing did not match his competitive drive.
He is survived by his wife Marcia of 46 years.  Their three daughters Andrea (Ron) Cantu of Coral, Jodee (Corey) McCave of Jackson, Nicole (Jim) Carman of Breckenridge.  Son Casey (Amy) McDaid of Jackson; 9 grandchildren Hannah, Hailee, Jacob, & Jenna Cantu; Carter McCave; Haden, Madison and Alden Carman; Kyle Reichard; his little four-legged companion DJ; two brothers Gary (Marty) McDaid and Larry (Jo) McDaid; sister Kathy (McDaid) Densmore; Uncle Wally and Aunt Marie Thayer of Desert Hot Springs, California; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents Murl and Mary Helen McDaid; brothers John and Tom McDaid; nephew Michael McDaid; grandparents Virgil & Grace McDaid and Harold & Eloise Thayer and his aunt Sue (Thayer) Jones.
A visitation will be held at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 12-3 p.m.  A luncheon will immediately follow at the North Star Hall.  Per his wishes, Jim will be cremated.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Sumner Community Center and Spectrum Health United Cancer Center in Greenville.  The McDaid family would also like to extend a special “thank you” to the staff at Sparrow Carson Hospital for the care given to their father and husband.  Condolences may be left for the family online at www.bardenfuneralhome.com.
