David George Smith, age 86, of Ovid, MI, passed away, Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the University of Michigan Health – Sparrow Lansing, Lansing, MI.
A Private Graveside Service will be held Middlebury Township Cemetery, Ovid, MI. David was born in Ohsweken Ontario, Canada. He lived on the Mohock 6 Nations Reservation, of the Turtle Clan. He attended school on the reservation until around seven-years-old, and the family moved to Flint, MI. Upon graduation from Kersley High School, he started working for a gardener. When the gardener retired, David, started his own landscape business.
He married June Bekofske, and they had one son, David Wayne. Upon June’s death, he met Linda Buck at a dance. They were married August 9, 1980.
David and Linda took square dancing lessons, and later Round Dance lessons. He started cueing at Square Dance Clubs, and they started teaching people to Round Dance at their Studio. They taught for several years, and traveled to several clubs in Michigan, Ohio, and Hawaii. Upon retiring from dancing, David enjoyed working in his workshop. He enjoyed having coffee with the guys at the coffee shop.
He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Linda; his stepson John and Kimberly Buck of Ovid, MI. David was preceded in death by his parents, David Budd and Violet Irvine Smith, his son David Wayne Smith, his sister Marilyn Smith, his first wife June Bekofske, and his grandson Joshua Buck.
