Cory VanHorn

Cory Hal Patrick VanHorn, 40, of Chesaning, MI, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at his home.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 11 A.M. - 1 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI.

Cory was born in Owosso, MI on May 25, 1979, the son of James A. and Doreen Lynn (DeFrenn) VanHorn. He attended Chesaning and Swan Valley Public Schools. Cory was employed at Porex Filtration Group in St. Charles.

Cory loved fishing and camping with his son Christian. When camping Cory would stay up all night tending his bonfires! They also enjoyed playing games and watching movies together.

Cory is survived by his mother Doreen (John) Elliott, son Christian VanHorn and "bonus daughter" Savannah VanHorn.  He is also survived by siblings: James VanHorn Jr., Shaun Ockerman, Mary (Wesley) Shears, Jamie (Jeff) Albritton, and Jessica Elliott; and many nieces and nephews.  Cory was preceded in death by his father James VanHorn Sr., grandparents: Carl & Pat VanHorn, and Dale & Marion DeFrenn; uncle Kevin DeFrenn and cousin Andressa VanHorn.
