Verda Christine Kinkead, age 84, of Alma, died Monday, October 5, 2015, at Masonic Pathways in Alma.
Christine was born in Plant City, Florida, on February 12, 1931, the daughter of Ernest Glenn and Nina (Alexander) Kinkead. she graduated from Ithaca High School in 1949, whereupon she went to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where she received her Bachelor of Science Nursing degree. As she worked in hospital administration, she continued her education at Adrian, where she earned her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. She served as Dean of Women at Alma College. Along with Chaplain Don Warmouth, she helped organize the Patient Equipment Locker in Alma and for several years, served as its CEO. Christine loved her church and the Lord, and led a life of service, in her community and in her church.
Christine is survived by her brothers and sister, Glenn (Arlene) Kinkead of Ashley, Larry Kinkead of Ithaca, Edd Kinkead of Alma, Doug Kinkead of Ithaca, and Betty (Winston) Miller of Louisville, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Garnet and Rose; and her brothers, David and Sam.
Funeral services will be Noon Thursday, October 8, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca,with Pastor Steve Swem officiating. Interment will follow in Ithaca Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
