Carmen Sue Armbrustmacher (Pung), 60, was born in St. John’s on June 11, 1965, to Roy J. and Sharon Pung and grew up in Fowler, Michigan, where she and Greg also raised their own family. Greg and Carmen married in 1987, and continued to grow the Pung family farm. She worked for the State of Michigan for 38 years. Carmen also sold Avon on the side after assisting Greg’s grandma May Rose for years. Carmen was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, where she found the most comfort when facing the unknown.
To those who knew her, Carmen was much more than her illness and she didn’t let it define her. She cared far more about the relationships she had and new ones she might make. Always the first to strike up a conversation with a stranger, Carmen liked people, their stories, and connections to others she might know. This often embarrassed her kids, but they certainly grew to see and appreciate her ability to connect with almost everyone she encountered and each of her children undeniably emulate it in their own way.
Carmen is best known for: riding shotgun with Greg to fetch parts, ice cream, or simply to check the crops, cheering on her kids in all that they did, doting on her granddaughters, chatting on the phone for hours at a time with family and friends (especially “Grandma Sharon”), delivering meals to the fields, spending summer days at the Lake George family cottage, and making her son and daughters-in-law feel welcome by recalling their favorite things. While she insisted all of her kids were her favorite, she was extra close to Seth, being her baby and the last at home. She was very proud of his achievements and appreciated the compassion the community showed him and her family.
Carmen passed away on September 2, 2025, at her home in Fowler, MI.
