Carl Oberlitner, age 95, died April 8, 2014, at Schnepp Senior Care Center in St. Louis.

Carl was born in Ashley on August 29, 1918, one of ten children born to Henry and Margret (Everette) Oberlitner.

He enlisted in the Navy as a SeaBee in 1942, serving in the South Pacific Theatre until 1945 when he was honorably discharged.  He then returned home to Gratiot County where he married Vera Helen Kozeny on February 25, 1950.  His life’s work for over 50 years was as a water well driller, for which he was well known throughout the community.

Carl loved his family and provided well for them.  A great outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish, and travel throughout Michigan.

Carl is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vera; his daughters, Marlene Kay Oberlitner of Alma, and Carol Lyn Oberlitner of Ithaca; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Carl Oberlitner; his  parents; his brothers and sisters, Edward Oberlitner, Peter Oberlitner, F.M. “Peck” Oberlitner, Eli Oberlitner, Jake Oberlitner, David Oberlitner, Maggie Clark, Frances Thompson, and his twin sister, Carrie Pankhurst.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Ford Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan, with Mike Reeves officiating.  A dinner will follow at ZCBJ Hall in Bannister.  Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca.
