      Burton M. "Burt" Case, age 86, of Ovid, MI, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
       Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, with Pastor Jeremy Wittwer officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI at a later date. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M., and Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service, at the funeral home.
       Burt was born in Owosso, Michigan on August 18, 1938, the son of Clinton M Case and Theo (Bradley) Purves. He graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1957. Burt married Sandra L. "Sandy" Smith on December 2, 1961, in Owosso, Michigan. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage.
       Burt owned and operated Ovid Machine and Tool in Ovid for 25 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from December 10, 1961 to September of 1963. He was a member of the Middlebury Fire Department serving as the Fire Chief for 6 years and a school board member for the Ovid-Elsie Area Schools for 8 years. Burt enjoyed hunting, especially in Colorado and he was a guide for deer hunting in Quincy, IL for many years at Hadley Creek. He loved golfing, was a previous member of the Clinton County Country Club which is now the Emerald, and even played in St. Andrews, Scotland. He also enjoyed playing softball in his younger years and racing snowmobiles. Burt and Sandy enjoyed winters in Dade City, Florida.
       He is survived by his wife Sandy Case of Ovid, MI; daughter Karen Case of Eureka, MI; son-in-law Joe Audia of Ovid, MI; grandchildren: Nicole and Pete Salava; Nathan and Malerie Russell; Ashli (Sam Irrer) Friesorger; Justin (Amber Clark) Friesorger, Tasha Belill; John Audia and Chelsea Potts; his great-grandchildren: James and Cooper Salava, Wellston, Sutton, Chandler, and Hollis Russell, and Levi Friesorger, Julian, Rosie, and Faith Belill. He is also survived by brother Clayton and Jolyn Case of Elsie, MI, sister-in-law Pat Purves of Ovid, MI; brothers-in-law: Richard and Linda Smith of California; Raymond and Martha Smith of Kentucky; and Walt Frederick of Arizona; and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Anne Audia, mother Theo (Joe) Purves, father Clinton Case, sister Betty Case, brothers: Wayne Purves & Jim Purves, sister-in-law Sally Frederick, and brother-in-law William Smith.
      The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff on 5 West at University of Michigan Sparrow Main, hospice nurses: Erin and Vanessa, and home health aide Kristina.
