Bonnie June Cross

February 20, 1933 — March 15, 2026

Sumner

Bonnie June Cross passed away on March 15, 2026. She was born the fourth of eight children to Albert and Lorna Smith, on February 20, 1933. She married her beloved husband, Robert Cross, on September 8, 1950.
From a young age, Bonnie was always willing to help and happy to make things easier for those she loved. She started school at the age of four to help fill in the enrollment of the county school where her father served as a school board member. She started her marriage on an army base, Camp McCoy in Wisconsin, while Bob served in the Army. Wherever and whenever, Bonnie was dedicated to taking care of her family and supporting the people she loved.
Bonnie never met an animal that she didn’t want to rescue and love. And she never saw a garage sale that she didn’t want to stop and peruse. She spent many happy days comparing her finds with her sisters and strolling through the antique store to see what new treasures had appeared.
Bonnie’s greatest joy came from her family. She was incredibly close with her siblings and considered them to be her dearest friends. As mother to Louie Cross, Cynthia Donley, Mark Cross (Denise), and Joe Cross, she was the de facto disciplinarian, only because Bob could not bring himself to the task and someone had to keep those Cross kids in line. She was a loving grandmother to Nicholas Cross (Katherine), Shannon Morerod (Zachary), Lindsay Hartman (Scott), and Ryan Donley (Ashley), and a doting great-grandmother to Dexter, Brian, Brenna, Cooper, Mason, McCoy, and Peter. Throughout her life, Bonnie was fortunate in the friends and family who surrounded her. She was beloved by her many nieces and nephews, with whom she was always thrilled to visit. Her family will be forever grateful to the neighbors Carol, Randy, and Jan, who helped her after Bob’s passing, giving her the opportunity to live in their home on Crystal Lake until the age of 91. She also received amazing love and care from the staff at The Maples of St. Johns, in the final years of her life. Bonnie made the world a kinder and gentler place for everyone lucky enough to know her. Her family will carry her memory and her place with them always.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carson City, MI, on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Carson City, MI. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
Bonnie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She is survived by her children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; siblings: Rosetta O’Shauaghnessy, Janet Wey, and Randy (Julie) Smith. She was preceded in death by her grandchildren: Matthew, Stephen, and Elizabeth; siblings: Ivan, Fred, Joyce, and Johanne; son-in-law Brian Donley; sisters-in-law: Mary Lou, Agusta, and brothers-in-law: Wayne, Paul C., Paul W., and Lee.
