Bonnie Ellen Barnes

     Bonnie Ellen Barnes, age 88, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Monday, May 19, 2025, at the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Lansing, MI.
     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, with Pastor Ried Martin officiating. Burial will take place at New Haven Township Cemetery, New Haven Twp, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
     Bonnie was born in New Haven Township, Michigan on May 21, 1936, the daughter of Hugh Lawrence and Helen (McCuaig) MacLaren. She graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1954, as the valedictorian. Bonnie married Donald Barnes on June 24, 1955, at New Haven Church of God. Don passed away on July 19, 2011, after 56 wonderful years of marriage. She loved being a homemaker and she shared her love of reading as a librarian at Ithaca Public Schools.
     Bonnie enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, gardening, cooking, camping, and playing cards with friends. Bonnie and Don also enjoyed traveling. She enjoyed the company of her many cats, and her special kitty Ebony.
     She is survived by her children: Scott (Valry) Barnes, Tamara (Steven) Puffpaff, Beth (John) Berkimer, Carrie (James) Hull, Crystal (Curt) McCracken, and Mike Barnes; 33 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Brick (Jane) MacLaren; sisters-in-law: Levina (Arley) Wright, Janine Barnes, and Huong thi MacLaren; brother-in-law Jim Kemp; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant brother Larry MacLaren, her brother Mack MacLaren, her sisters: Mary Ann Strong, Margaret Kemp, father and mother-in-law Irving and Alice Barnes, brothers-in-law: Leon "Dick" Barnes and Robert Barnes; and her sister-in-law Doris Barnes.
