Arthur Courter Jr
Age 57 of St. Louis, Michigan passed away Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma, Michigan. He retired from Dow Chemical in 2000.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Louis. Rev. Fr. Charlie Hammond will officiate with burial at Wright Cemetery in Alma, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel. There will also be a Prayer Service Tuesday at 5:30 P.M.
Arthur was born on May 14, 1946 in Alma, Michigan, the son of Arthur Bert and Kathryn (Feltman) Courter Sr. He graduated from St. Louis High School with the Class of 1964. On September 25, 1965 he married Janice Holmes in Alma, Michigan. He loved to travel with his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to auctions, and flower gardening. He also coached girls(TM)s softball and boys(TM)s baseball teams for many years. He was a member of Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of St. Louis.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Courter of St. Louis, MI, 4 children, Diana & Sgt. Steven Winsor of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Arthur Courter III of St. Louis, MI, Julie & Michael Lowry of Grand Ledge, MI, and Sgt. Colin & Jessica Courter of El Paso, TX, foster daughter, Paris Decker of St. Louis, MI, 7 grandchildren, Misty Thick, Jaclyn Thompson, Jessica Winsor, Steven Winsor II, Jonathan Courter, Darien Courter, and Rachel Lowry, his parents, Arthur & Kathryn Courter Sr., of Alma, MI, 8 brothers & sisters, Elaine & Dan Fleming of Vestaburg, MI, Karen & Bill Mills of Alma, MI, Juanita & Cam Edwards of Alma, MI, Tom Courter & Darlene Stover of Alma, MI, Jean Fall & Terry Davenport of Crystal, MI, Jim Courter of St. Louis, MI, Kathy & Kyle Wilhelm of Alma, MI, Laura Courter & Mary Kastl of Alma, MI, also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Allysa Courter.
Memorials may be made to Gratiot County Pardee Cancer Center. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
