     Arlene Alice "Art" Sumner, age 101, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, at her daughters home.
     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Ryan Church, Merrill, MI at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, with Rev. Fr. Sunil Kumar Pallela presiding. Burial will take place at Jasper Township Cemetery, Jasper Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis, MI.
     Arlene was born in Remus, Michigan on February 15, 1924, the daughter of Valentine and Mary (Eldred) Bott. She graduated from high school in Remus. Arlene married Lawrence Robert "Bob" Sumner on January 22, 1949, in Remus, MI. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage, prior to his passing on July 22, 2014.
     She enjoyed camping and traveling with family throughout Michigan. Art visited every state except Alaska. She loved reading, quilting and made many quilts for her family. Art and Bob grew a beautiful garden every year and canned their produce to keep and share. Most of all she loved time spent with her family. She was a member of St. Patrick Ryan Church Merrill, MI.
     She is survived by her children: Sam and Lou Ann Sumner of Breckenridge, MI; Mary Wheelock of Harrison, MI; Jim Sumner of Wheeler, MI; Keith and Carla Sumner of Naples, FL; Barb Hamp of Shepherd, MI; Jerry Sumner of Alma, MI; and Linda Sumner and Rick Campbell of Alma, MI; her grandchildren: Konrad, Troy, Shawn, Nick, and Breanna Sumner, Bill Wheelock, David Sumner, Marc, Matt, and Austin Sumner, Tiffany, Stacey, and Ryan Sumner, Daniel and Ashley Hamp, Brandon and Trevor Richardson, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Lucille Kwater of Shields, MI and Nila Gaudard of Midland, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence, her daughter Denise Sumner, and her sons-in-law: Bill Wheelock and David Hamp.
