Anita Lorraine Kindel was born February 23, 1929 to Marguerite (VerVecke) and Edmund Mushynski in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. In August of 1928 her birth father was killed in a boating accident and on September 5, 1932 she became the much loved stepdaughter of Wayne Roland.
As the future would lead her step-dad into preaching, she came to know much about the Christian faith and it became very important to her. After several positions in Michigan the Roland family moved to Ashley to pastor the East Washington United Brethren Church.
Anita met Fred Junior Kindel at 15 years old. Upon laying eyes on her he said “I’m gonna marry that girl!” After Anita graduated as valedictorian of her 1946 graduating class Fred and Anita were married at the East Washington United Brethren Church on December 7, 1946. To this union was born four children Christine Louise, Kendra Kaye, Nicholas Fred, and Chris Wayne.
Anita attended college and graduated with a degree as an LPN. She thoroughly enjoyed her years nursing until an illness required her to retire from it. She had worked at many other jobs before and after and cherished the friends she made at each one.
The family spent much time at Drummond Island, Michigan in a cabin built by Fred. They had been introduced to Drummond by dear friends Milford and Helen Cordray and Paul and Lucille Beck. As the years passed, the family made many special memories there. Anita’s last trip to their beloved Drummond was Labor Day weekend with son Chris.
Anita was a long time member of the Ashley United Methodist Church. She was a member of many organizations and was always ready to help with anything that needed doing. She was faithful in her time spent with her Bible. She enjoyed her devotional time and praying for all the family.
The family is forever grateful for the help given us by Judy and Dee Simmons and Elara Hospice. The loving compassionate care mom received made dealing with our impending loss easier.
Visitation will be 10am to Noon Thursday, October 8, 2020 at the Ashley United Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow at 1:30pm at the North Star Cemetery with Pastor Zella Daniel officiating. Anita will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Fred in the Kindel corner of the North Star Cemetery. For those wishing to attend but stay in their vehicles during the graveside service, the service will be broadcast over FM radio on channel 89.9 to cars in the cemetery.
Donations in memory of Anita may be made to the Ashley United Methodist Church or the Drummond Island Baptist Church 29281 E. Channel Rd., Drummond Island, MI 49726.
