Alden Lee “Al” McBride, age 82, of St. Johns, Michigan, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, Michigan surrounded by the love of his family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, with Pastor Judy Hazle officiating. Burial will take place at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, MI at a later date. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Alden was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on March 12, 1943, the son of Elton L. and Betty Lou (Melvin) McBride. He graduated from Shepherd High School with the Class of 1961. Al was a lifelong farmer and worked skilled trades for General Motors for over 30 years before retiring. On June 26, 1970, Al married Amelia Saenz Rodriguez in Lansing, Michigan. They have been blessed with fifty-five years of marriage.
Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to the casino. He liked auctions, garage sales, and thrift store finds. Al was never one to sit still; he spent many hours’ horseback riding, snowmobiling, boating, and riding his motorcycle. Al and Amy wintered in Texas for over 20 years. Al enjoyed fishing in Texas and Canada and frequent trips to Mexico. They enjoyed traveling in the West.
He is survived by his wife Amy, children: Aric McBride, Mary Ellen (Ryan) Pertler, John (Teresa) Cardenas, Tom (Denise) Cardenas, and Alan (Gail) McBride; thirteen grandchildren: Sarah (Damon) Wilcox, Angela (Barry) Tande, Jessica (John) Hazle, Tayla (Casey) Messer, Melissa Rose, Justin Cardenas, Olivia Cardenas, Josh (Kari) Cardenas, Ben (Sarah) Cardenas, Madison (Garret) Myers, Aden McBride, Andrew McBride, and Courtney (Richard) Stevens; twenty-one great grandchildren; and his brothers: Randy (Vanessa) McBride, and Tim McBride; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
