Agnes Juanita Kenney age 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Rosewood Foster Care Home in Ithaca, Michigan. She was born on December 31, 1914, to Robert and Clara Duckworth on a farm near Alma, Michigan. Agnes graduated from Alma High School, attended Alma College, received a bachelor' degree and master's degree from Central Michigan University. Retiring in 1980, she had taught at the Stoddard School, Bovee School, and South Elementary School in Ithaca.
Married in 1935 to Lyle Gaylord Kenney, she helped farm, raise chickens for eggs and meat, and operate a hatchery in Ithaca. Her children are: Anne Barton, Alice (Alan) Schafer, Howard (Mary) Kenney, and Daniel Kenney and friend Dianne. Agnes has 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren. Surviving her are her sisters Margaret Collins and June Leasure. Mrs. Kenney was predeceased by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, and her husband.
Agnes had been a member of the North Star Methodist Church since 1937, serving as Sunday school teacher, treasurer, and pianist. Lyle and Agnes spent several winters in their second home near Haines City, Florida. For many years she had a large vegetable and flower garden. Many people have received huge bouquets of gladiolus and vegetables from her garden.
A memorial service to honor this kind, brilliant, amazing woman, who touched so many lives, will be held at the North Star Township Hall. The service will be at 10:30 A. M. On Saturday, July 22, 2017, with a luncheon to follow.
